Che cosa s'intende per
Arte fascista?
Si tratta di una domanda a cui è difficile fornire una risposta precisa, e, soprattutto, concisa. La maggior parte dei critici ne fornisce una definizione a priori, per poi a posteriori trovare le opere che avvalorino la definizione che ne è stata data. Appare pleonastico rilevare quanto un simile "metodo" sia del tutto antiscientifico, ideologico ed arbitrario. Ebbene, questo è proprio l'esatto contrario di ciò che qui ci proponiamo di fare: fornire al Lettore dei fatti, non delle conclusioni preconfezionate. "I fatti parlano da soli", dicono gli inglesi. Nel nostro caso, i "fatti" sono le opere, e saranno queste a parlare.
What is fascist art? What is meant by "art of the fascist era"? These are questions to which it is difficult to provide a precise and, above all, concise answer. Most critics provide an a priori definition of it, and then a posteriori find works that support the definition that has been given. It seems superfluous to point out how completely unscientific, ideological and arbitrary such a "method" is. Well, this is the exact opposite of what we aim to do here: provide the reader with facts, not pre-packaged conclusions. “The facts speak for themselves,” say the English. In our case, the "facts" are the works, and these will do the talking.
